Habits You Should Practice
Everyone wants to be healthy, but sometimes it’s hard to know where to start. There are so many different opinions out there about what is “healthy” and what isn’t. It can be overwhelming! Lucky for you, we’ve compiled a list of the 7 habits of healthy people. If you can incorporate even just a few of these into your daily routine, you’ll be well on your way to living a healthier, happier life.
1. They Eat Breakfast
Healthy people know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Eating a nutritious breakfast jumpstarts your metabolism and sets you up for making good food choices throughout the rest of the day. If you’re not a morning person, try prepping your breakfast the night before so all you have to do is grab it and go in the morning.
2. They Exercise Regularly
Exercise is important for maintaining both physical and mental health. A healthy person makes time for at least 30 minutes of exercise every day. This doesn’t have to mean going to the gym—any activity that gets your heart rate up will do. Taking a brisk walk in your neighborhood or playing with your kids at the park are both great examples of exercises that are easy to fit into even the busiest of schedules.
3. They Drink Plenty of Water
Water is essential for our bodies to function properly. Every system in our body depends on water to work properly, which is why it’s so important to make sure we’re staying hydrated throughout the day. A good rule of thumb is to drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water per day.
4. They Eat Their Vegetables
We all know we’re supposed to eat our vegetables, but how many of us actually do? Incorporating more vegetables into your diet is a great way to make sure you’re getting the nutrients your body needs. Aim for at least three servings of vegetables per day—and try to mix up the types of veggies you’re eating so you can get a variety of nutrients.
5. They Limit Their Alcohol Intake
Drinking alcohol in moderation has been shown to have some health benefits, but that doesn’t mean you should start drinking if you don’t already. And if you do drink alcohol, it’s important not to overdo it—men should limit themselves to two drinks per day, and women should limit themselves to one drink per day.
6. They Get Enough Sleep
Most adults need between seven and eight hours of sleep per night—but unfortunately, many people don’t get nearly enough shut-eye on a regular basis. Make sure you’re getting enough rest by setting a regular bedtime and sticking to it as much as possible. You’ll feel better physically and mentally if you’re getting enough sleep every night.
7. They See Their Doctor Regularly
Last but not least, healthy people make sure they see their doctor regularly—usually once per year for an annual checkup, and more often if they have any health concerns or risk factors for certain diseases (such as high blood pressure or diabetes). Don’t wait until something feels wrong before making an appointment—prevention is key when it comes to maintaining good health!
There’s no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to living a healthy lifestyle—but incorporating some (or all!) of these habits into your daily routine is a great place to start! Which habit are you going to work on first?
